Character description: Nigel is 17. He is a painter, and he paints the night. Living in downtown Angel City, he paints Others and dreams of seeing one in life, watching the silhouettes of circling Kaeharti overhead in the daytime through his open window. His few friends call him suicidal, and he doesn't disagree. Nigel is above all else a dreamer, and since the time when he was very young when he watched a pair of werewolves gliding down the street with their inhuman, animal grace, he's longed to understand their world. He writes a book of his observations, of the little he knows, and wanders the streets alone, seeming to seek danger in his quest for knowledge. In appearance, he's fairly small, slender, with shaggy black hair and as well kept an appearance as can be managed, given the circumstances.


Character background: The world he comes from is from far in the future where humans are controlled by the Others, a blanket term for the various supernatural races (i.e. werewolves, vampires, etc.). They have no rights and fewer resources. Some cars still run, but electricity has been lost and most dams have been broken, so water run power is minimal. Some few houses still have running water, though. Highways are broken from upheavals, not to mention the damage from the bombing. Most people can't remember a time before the Fall, as it is now called. Children go to school until 9th grade, though most drop out when their parents die. Average life expectancy is 28 years if you're lucky. From 12 pm to 12 am humans are free and safe, supposedly. The rest of the day belongs to them – the Others. Nigel began by saving a dying Selkie, but when he was drawn into the human resistance, he had the chance to be close to Others. In saving one as they were escaping with the Selkie he'd rescued, he was shot to death by the leader of the underground resistance, Sasha, driven half-mad by her lust for vengeance.
